Kayaking and Canoeing in the White Mountains

There are two distinct types of stream canoeing in the White Mountains. Quick-water canoeing is popular in the spring, during periods of high water, but is only recommended for expert canoeists. Whitewater rafting is also an option at this time of year; guided trips for novices to the experienced are available.

Canoe touring or canoeing during the medium or low water period in summer can be enjoyed by almost everyone. There are a number of canoe shops throughout the White Mountains offering rentals and guided trips - and they'll generally transport your canoe directly to put-ins, and arrange to pick you and the canoe up at trip's end. Some shops offer opportunity for canoe camping as well.

Another option: tubing, one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy a sunny summer day. For tube rentals, contact local sport shops. Motorized and non-motorized boat rentals are also available for fishermen and others who wish to explore the region's lakes, rivers and ponds.
